Tigray region and identity commission showdown continues
Administrative Boundary and Identity Commission have faced challenges ever since parliament passed the draft. Much of the controversy arose as claims that the commission's establishment contradicts the constitution. In the 24th regular meeting, parliament appointed forty-one members for the commission yesterday. Ato Amanuel Assefa, Tigray Region Legal Office Head, opposed the parliament's decision to appoint members saying that the proclamation hasn’t been assigned a number and announced on Federal Negarit Gazeta.
Mereja TV contacted Ato Amanuel to elaborate on his opposition. We also checked in with Ato Tesfaye Daba, Chairman of House of People’s Representative Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, to weigh in on the matter.
